1. Bridegroom of Blessing

 • Series: Portraits of the Kingdom

This sermon emphasizes Jesus’ unwavering commitment to his mission, leading to his sacrifice and ultimate victory. It challenges distorted views of God—either as a harsh enforcer or an indifferent figure—revealing instead a God who is both just and compassionate. Through the wedding at Cana, Jesus’ first miracle, we see his role as the bridegroom establishing a new covenant, offering not mere earthly blessings but the eternal joy of communion with him. This blessing, however, comes at a cost: the necessity of justice, as sin must be dealt with, and only the blood of Christ can truly purify. In light of this, Lent is not just about small sacrifices but about casting away false idols and fixing our eyes on the true God, who paid the ultimate price to secure our place at his table.
